Frequently asked questions
Why is it important to protect my engine from wear?
Engine wear occurs as a result of metal-to-metal contact between precise components. If these components come into contact, it can result in abrasion, wear and damage. This can reduce the efficiency of the engine or even result in failure.
The only thing standing between engine components is a thin layer of oil.
How do I choose the right oil for my car?
Engine oil is designed to maintain your vehicle's engine health and improve its performance. There are a variety of different types of oil available such as mineral, part-synthetic and fully synthetic. The higher the synthetic content of the oil, the greater the level of protection and performance and fuel efficiency you can expect.
Oils also come in a variety of viscosity grades. This is a measure of the thickness of the oil and its resistance to flow. The numbers often referred to with oils indicate the oils ability to flow at cold and hot engine temperatures.
We'd always recommend that you refer to your vehicles manual for the ideal viscosity and oil specification.
Why choose Castrol Active?
On the busy roads of Bangladesh, where stop-and-go traffic is part of everyday life, your two-wheeler engine undergoes heavy stress. Every time you accelerate, brake, or idle, the engine endures high friction and heat, which can degrade its components over time. These conditions make it harder for the engine to maintain efficiency, often resulting in high wear and tear.
In such cases, Castrol Activ Synthetic Technology stands out as the one of the best engine oils for your two-wheelers. Our unique Actibond Technology™ is designed to provide you 3X protection to your engine at 3 different stages of riding. Protection during start-up, production during ride and protection from corrosion when the engine is idle. Below are a few reasons why Castrol Activ engine oil is the best choice for your two-wheeler:
Why Castrol Activ engine is a great choice for your vehicle’s engine:
- Wide range of engine oils for different types of two-wheelers
Castrol Activ has wide range of engine oils as per the viscosity grade recommended by the leading OEMs for different types of bike and scooters. - Lower Maintenance Costs
By reducing engine deposits, it minimizes maintenance expenses associated with engine clean-ups over time. - Smooth Operation
It reduces engine wear during startup, ensuring your two-wheeler runs smoothly and lasts longer. - Protects Engine Components
It defends vulnerable parts against rust and corrosion, preserving their integrity. - Fewer Replacements
By extending the life of engine parts, it saves you money on replacements in the long run.
With our Castrol Activ range of lubricants, you can confidently ride your two-wheeler and enjoy every moment on the road without any worry.
What is viscosity and what is the difference between monograde and multigrade?
In order for motor oil to perform its major function - lubrication - its viscosity (in measures of its thickness or resistance to flow) must be capable of holding up under extreme temperature conditions.
Oil thins when heated and thickens when cooled. A grading system like this is used: "XXW-XX", with the first part eg. "10W" indicating the oil's viscous characteristics at cold temperature and the second part eg. "40" indicating those at operating temperature. Oils which only display a single viscosity grade 30, 40, or 50 are known as a monograde.
Monogrades must be replaced seasonally (winter and summer) to ensure appropriate viscosity, therefore the majority of engine oils are multigrade.
What is the API service rating?
The API (American Petroleum Institute) Service rating is an American based, two-letter classification that identifies the performance level of the motor oil and the year model of vehicle which it is suited for. If an owner's manual calls for API SJ or SL oil, API SN oil will provide superior protection. API SP is the Latest API Grade.
What do engine oils do?
- As a lubricant they reduce the friction and wear that occurs when engine parts move against each other, for example between the cylinder walls and piston rings, or the camshaft lobes and followers/lifters.
- As a coolant they absorb and transfer the heat produced in the engine combustion chambers and piston undercrown area, cooling the engine and helping prevent overheating.
- As a sealant they seal the space between the piston ring and the cylinder wall to prevent combustion pressure (engine power) from escaping.
- As a detergent they prevent waste matter resulting from combustion and impurities from sticking to the engine interior, helping to keep it clean.
- As a rust inhibitor they neutralize acids produced by combustion gases, preventing rusting and corrosion.
What is the difference between synthetic oil and mineral oil?
Mineral and synthetic based oils are mostly derived from crude oil or its refined components. Mineral base oils are produced during normal crude oil refining process and are enhanced with chemical additives. Some synthetic base oils are produced by further refining and chemically altering these mineral base oils. Other types of synthetic base oils are made by using special refinery products to tailor-make specific and unique molecules.
What are the advantages of using synthetic engine oils?
Synthetic engine oils are able to:
- Operate at much higher temperatures for longer.
- Resist oxidation better than mineral oils leading to less wear and longer engine life.
- Be used for longer or extended drain intervals.
- Provide quicker oil circulation at start-up which contributes to improved fuel economy due to less energy being wasted through viscous drag.
What are the three causes of engine sludge?
Extreme heat can break down oil, which forms sludge when combined with dirt particles. Water, unburned fuel and other contaminants can all react with oil to create sludge. Contaminants that create engine sludge are more easily absorbed by the oil during short trips.
